While the scale or attendance weren’t quite at the same level as Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany, the Oktoberfest in Lake Highlands had the same festive atmosphere and was just as fun and entertaining. The event, which was planned and hosted by the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands, was held at the Lake Highlands Town Center from 11 a.m. and ran till 8 p.m.
The main attraction of Oktoberfest was the beer and the food and neither were in short supply on Saturday. Vendors, such as Kuby’s Sausage House, Urban Crust and Eat the World, were on hand to satiate the voracious appetites of the residents of Lake Highlands. There was also plenty of beer on tap for the adults at the event, which was essential with several thousand guests in attendance.
There was a stream of never-ending musical entertainment drifting through the venue, courtesy of the multitude of bands that were called in to play at the Town Center’s Amphitheater. Listeners were treated to bands such as Matt Tolentino and the Royal Klobasneks, STV Almrausch and Doc Flohr’s Oktoberfest Band. There were also special performances from the Lake Highlands cheerleaders, Wranglers and Highlandettes throughout the afternoon and evening.
Lake Highlands Oktoberfest was billed as an event that was as much for kids as it was for adults, and the Exchange Club really came through. An entire section of the Town Center was sectioned off and deemed the “Kid Zone.” The Kid Zone had enough entertainment, fun and activities to even rival the State Fair of Texas at least for a day. Kids could take endless trips through the multiple bounce houses or strap up and try out the Euro Bungee. There was also a petting zoo, airbrush tattoos, pumpkin bowling and many other carnival-like games.
Perhaps the most impressive thing about Oktoberfest is that this is the first time the event has ever been held in Lake Highlands and it finished as a rousing success. And as the Lake Highlands Town Center continues to expand and build up, Oktoberfest should only become bigger and grander as well. So, while their children eagerly anticipate October for Halloween, the residents of Lake Highlands will also have something to look forward to in Oktober(fest) as well.
