The RISD Council of PTAs is pleased to announce plans to award eight student scholarships and four teacher scholarships for the 2012-2013 school year.

The scholarship committee will award four Dr. JJ Pearce Memorial Scholarships to graduating seniors in RISD (one per high school) in the amount of $4,500 each. These scholarships are applicable to four-year colleges or universities.

In addition, four Dr. JJ Pearce Memorial Scholarships in the amount of $1,750 each will be awarded to graduating seniors in RISD (one per high school) who plan to attend a junior college, community college or vocational school.

All scholarship awards will be based on academics, character, extra-curricular activities and financial need.

Application forms for student scholarships will be available in the counselors' office located in each high school or online early Jan. 2013. The deadline for submitting applications is Friday, March 22, 2013 at 4 p.m.

Four teacher scholarships in the amount of $500 each will be awarded this year. The recipients must have taught at least one full academic year in RISD to be considered and must have a current PTA membership. Teacher scholarship forms are available in the principal's office at each school or on the website under forms. Applications must be postmarked on or before Friday, March 22, 2013 to be considered.

Recipients will be notified before May 7, 2013. All scholarship recipients will be presented at the RISD Council of PTAs Awards luncheon to be held on Thursday, May 23, 2013.
