Following multiple rounds of competitions, five Lake Highlands High School choir students earned coveted spots on the Texas 2012 All State-Choir Saturday.

Siobhan Kelley (junior), Mary Ellen Kidd (senior), Blake Lueder (junior) , Parker Starr (senior) and Spencer Wood (senior) will perform at the Texas Music Educators Association convention in San Antonio on Feb. 11. Jordan Chumbley (senior) is an alternate for the choir.

Thousands of Texas high school students compete annually for a place in the All-State Choir.

"The Texas All-State Choirs are considered the most prestigious in the nation," said Janwin Overstreet-Goode, TMEA Vice President-Vocal Division. "You have demonstrated your musical abilities and self discipline by preparing this music."

The choral students are directed by teachers Michael O'Hern and Terry Berrier.

The annual TMEA Clinic/Convention features workshops for band, orchestra, vocal, elementary and college educators; concerts by the finest musicians, and two exhibit halls filled with booths representing all facets of the music education industry. The convention closes with performances by All-State ensembles comprising the best high school musicians in the state.
