White Rock Lake Centennial Celebration draws to a close

The Centennial Celebration of White Rock Lake ended this past weekend. The celebration lasted nearly the entire month of June but the party, which was hosted by For the Love of the Lake, saved the best for last.

The Beach Party of the Century kicked off on Saturday morning with an antique car show, awards and parade that lasted for a majority of the day. It ended roughly around 9:00 with fireworks to signal the end.

For those participants that weren’t so interested in old automobiles, there was plenty to see and especially to eat. For lunch, private chef Hollie Dorethy (Good Morning America) whipped up a four-course meal with wine to match.

Dinner was equally impressive with the VIP Celebrity Chef Dinner and wine pairing that featured chefs Marc Cassel (Peavy Road), Garreth Dickey and Keith Cedotal (Malai Kitchen)..

The gates opened again on early Sunday morning and breakfast was served at the Sunset Inn. And for those churchgoers that skipped to attend the event, gospel music was played until noon.

As the party started to wind down, people were invited to hang out at the Ice Cream Social and enjoy the lake and the afternoon sun. But for those that really wanted to end the event right, there was the extra Chef’s Picnic at the Lake, which featured all the previous chefs and some new faces to boot.

All in all, it was a picturesque ending to White Rock Lake’s 100th birthday.
