Lake Highlands' seniors take part in summer internship in Washington D.C.

A group of 10 Lake Highlands seniors traveled to Washington D.C. for a week to take part in the Pete Sessions Leadership and Growth Program. Carol Toler of the Advocate writes that of the 10 participants, Mary Margaret Johnson is the only female of the group but doesn't mind at all.

Johnson and her fellow students - Lee Lueder, Michael Miller, Bill Headrick, Forrest Denson, Nathan Sandel, Brodie Johnson, Mac McCann, Turner Doggett and Tanner Dale - were given an inside look at what goes on in Washington D.C. from Congressman Sessions himself.

Johnson said, "We got to sit in on a House of Representatives hearing and learn about what goes on there. On this trip, I have learned more about how to be a better leader in my community and how to follow people who are leading me."

Of course, it's not all work and no play. The students will get to attend a Washington Nationals baseball game, a monument river cruise, a tour of the Arlington Cemetery and a visit to the Smithsonian Museum.
