Lake Highlands' Erin Brennan named 9-5A softball MVP

Seven members of the Lake Highlands softball team earned distinction when they were named to SportsDay’s area all-district softball teams.  The Wildcats, as a team, were crowned District Champions for the third year in a row with a 20-2 record.

The MVP of District 9-5A was Lake Highlands’ pitcher Erin Brennan. Brennan, a junior, struck out an average of seven batters a game and had a batting average of .636.

Outfielder Andrea Beard was named the Offensive Player of the Year. The junior posted a .604 batting average, which was second on the team to Brennan. Beard knocked in 31 RBIs, hit six doubles and struck out only once all season.

Finally, coach Kelly Baker was named Coach of the Year for leading her Wildcats to their third consecutive District Championship. The Wildcats finished ranked No. 103 in the state and No. 714 in the nation.

Other Lake Highlands players that made the 9-5A all area-team include catcher Laura Harmon, third baseman Destiny Rojas, shortstop Ashley Hudson and outfielder Bridget O’Brien.
