He was the voice of East Dallas.

A well-known figure in Lakewood and Lake Highlands, journalist Bruce Felps kept the White Rock Lake communities informed by writing stories on all types of neighborhood news. From lost dogs to high school sporting events, Felps covered it all for his neighbors and beloved community.

Felps, the writer, editor, and publisher of EastDallasTimes.com and a Lakewood and Lake Highlands BubbleLife contributor, died Thursday, October 13th from complications following a brain aneurysm.

55-year-old Felps worked for more than 20 years as a journalist and was devoted to covering East Dallas, White Rock, and animal rescue causes.

Although born in Houston, his sister, Kathy Felps said he was a huge Dallas Stars fan.

Felps suffered a brain aneurysm on Wednesday, October 5th and had been in a coma for about a week at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas.

He is survived by his father, Lynn S. Felps of Denison, Texas and his wife Johnny-e and sister Kathy Felps of Dallas, as well as many cousins in the Houston and Florida area.

A memorial service for Bruce is being planned on Saturday, October 29th at White Rock Lake between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Finalized details will be posted on his CaringBridge website.
