Each year, the Davey O'Brien Foundation awards one North Texas high school student with the Davey O'Brien High School Scholarship Award and this year, one of the finalists hails from Lake Highlands High School. Lee Lueder, a senior on the four-time defending district champions wrestling team, has been selected as one of the five finalists for the honor.

Lueder has lettered four years in wrestling and was a team captain his senior year. In addition to wrestling, he also lettered three years in cross country. Finally, Lueder is an AP Scholar with Distinction and is also a National Merit Commended Student.

Lake Highlands wrestling coach Pete Grieder believes his athlete is very deserving of the award. He says that Lueder becoming a team captain wasn't his choice alone - instead, the entire team voted him as captain.

"They [the team] believe he is a true leader who leads not only by his ability to wrestle but also by his work ethic," said Grieder. "Lee has become a great wrestler because he works hards every single day in practice. He's currently 21-5 and looks to have a great chance to get to Regionals and State."

The winner of the Davey O'Brien High School Scholarship Award will receive a $20,000 grant for college and will be formally recognized at the Davey O'Brien Awards Dinner on February 20 at the Fort Worth Club. The four other finalists will not be going home empty-handed. They'll each receive a $1,000 scholarship for college.
