National Signing Day, which marks the first day that high school student-athletes could officially sign a Letter of Intent (LOI) to the college they plan to play for, was on Wednesday, February 1. From Lake Highlands, 10 student-athletes signed their LOIs and officially took the next step forward in their athletic career.

From the football team, offensive lineman Chase Walling signed up to play with Southern Methodist University while teammate Mark Powell signed with the University of Mary Hardin Baylor.

Middle blocker Matalee Reed is the only member of the volleyball team to sign a LOI. She'll be playing for Pepperdine University in the fall of 2012.

The soccer teams had seven players sign on Wednesday. The girls team was represented by Maggie Olvera, Brinkley Field and Madison Vessel. Olvera signed with Trinity University, Field signed with the University of Texas and Vessel will be playing for the University of Montana.

On the boys' side, Murphy Short signed with Southern Methodist University while his teammate Mason Miller signed with another Conference USA team - the University of Central Florida. Reagan Dunk will be playing at the University of Denver and Glory Williams signed with Notre Dame.

Congratulations to these 10 Wildcat student-athletes on continuing their athletic careers and also pursuing a higher education.
