For the second year in a row, the Lake Highlands High School Mock Trial Team advanced to Region 10 Semi-Finals in the Dallas District Mock Trial competition at the George Allen Courthouse on Saturday, January 29.  One team member, Brooke Elkjer, received honorable mention for all district best witness.

It was a fierce competition that involved a criminal case to determine whether the Defendant was responsible for murdering her business partner to gain his $94.8 estate under his will.  Yet, equities weighed in favor of the Defendant because if she was found guilty of murder, the Decedent's personal assistant would inherit the entire estate.  The personal assistant had been financially dependent upon the Decedent her entire adult life, was the last to see him alive and was the one to discover the body under suspicious circumstances.

The Regional Semi-Final and Final competition (to determine who will advance to state) is this Saturday, February, 4.

The LHHS team members are:  Brooke Elkjer, Jake Faulk, Chloe Bidne, Branson Cook, Samantha Fowler, Ximena Morales, Lily Faulk, Brandon Ballinger, Hix Fifer, Logan Cobb and Kellie Henderson.

The team is coached by Kim Elkjer, JD and sponsored by William Smith of LHHS and with lots of encouragement by their former sponsor, Dr. Andie Morgan.
