There's still some time before the eighth annual Run the Highlands happens on Saturday, April 28, but registration for the event is now open. Run the Highlands is a 5K course through the Lake Highlands community for runners, but it also has a one-mile walk for families.

Aside from the race and walk, the Lake Highlands Junior Women's League, which is putting on the event, will also be having a community carnival at the Lake Highlands North Recreation Center Park. After the 5K race is over, there will be a raffle and awards ceremony presentation at the community carnival.

Proceeds raised from this event will be used by the Lake Highlands Junior Women's League to install boulevard banners in high-traffic areas around the Lake Highlands community. The banners will be used to advertise Lake Highlands events - Oktoberfest, Home Tours - and promote community involvement in such events.

Early registration for Run the Highlands will last until April 25 and will cost $25 per person or $60 for a family of four (two adults, two kids). To learn more abou Run the Highlands or to register for the event, visit the Lake Highlands Junior Women's League website.
