The police officers of the Northeast Division in Lake Highlands had a very unusual situation unfold early Friday morning. Police officers apprehended a gunman attempting to flag down cars right in front of the police station. The officers responded quickly and efficiently and no one was hurt.

The incident occurred around 1:47 a.m. on Friday, August 31. Officers were dispatched when someone reported an Armed Vehicle Disturbance while in their vehicle near the Northeast substation. However, before officers arrived on scene, Detective Sanchez, who was leaving the NE substation, observed the suspect running along Northwest Highway with a gun in hand attempting to flag cars down.

The suspect ran past the substation, through the Armory parking lot and then back across Northwest Highway to the Exxon gas station at the intersection of Ferndale and Northwest Highway. Sanchez confronted the gunman, who ran back inside the gas station. Sanchez was able to detain the suspect until officers arrived to help and take the suspect into custody.

Officers eventually found the suspect's car in the middle of Buckner, just south of Northwest Highway. The car had a blown tire and had shell casings inside the vehicle.
