The mosquito population that is a risk for carrying and spreading the West Nile Virus is showing no signs of slowing down, so the City of Dallas is stepping up their mosquito spraying to help curb the growth. To help combat the mosquitoes, the city will be spraying two sections of Lake Highlands for three consecutive nights.

The spraying will occur beginning Monday night, August 13 and will go until Wednesday, August 15. As usual, the spraying will begin at 10:00 p.m. each night and will last until 3:00 a.m. The spraying will not occur if wind speeds are in excess of 10 miles per hour.

The first section of Lake Highlands to be sprayed is within the boundaries of LBJ Freeway (635) to the north, Central Expressway (US 75) and Abrams Road to the west, Royal Lane and Walnut Hill Lane to the south and Plano Road to the east.

The second section that will be sprayed is bounded by Walling Lane to the north, Abrams Road, Skillman Street and Greenville Avenue to the west, Prospect Avenue to the south and Abrams Road, Mockingbird Lane and Lawther Road to the west.

The insecticide is considered safe but residents are still encouraged to avoid contact with the spray by staying indoors. Any person that does come in contact with the spray should immediately wash any affected area with soap and water. Pets should be brought inside during the spraying as well.
