When it comes to the Lake Highlands Town Centers, the residents of Lake Highlands know better than to get their hopes up. But, developers have finally received enough funding to start construction on the first buildings of the project, according to an article by Steve Brown in The Dallas Morning News.

Love Funding of Washington, D.C. arranged a $23 million HUD-backed mortgage for the town center. The money will go towards the construction of four-story apartment buildings with 200 units and ground floor restaurants. The new apartments will be built at Sedgwick Drive and Watercrest Parkway and 20-percent of the apartments must be priced as affordable units.

For the most part, residents in Lake Highlands are excited for construction at the town center to get underway.

"I am so glad it is almost up and running," said Kelley Hurst, a Publicity Officer for the Lake Highlands High School PTA. "The Lake Highlands community has already been using the Town Center as a venue for events such as the Lake Highlands Exchange Club's Oktoberfest celebration, and now we will have store fronts to adorn the site! I hope the apartments are high quality and make the area similar to The Shops at Park Lake. If so, I'll be there often!"

However, the opinions of many Lake Highlands residents can be succinctly summarized by Karen Hohnstein, the owner of My Office in Lake Highlands:

"It's great. It's about time."
