In hopes of improving bike safety and making the city of Dallas a more accessible place, City Manager Mary Suhm recommends constructing 47 miles of bike lanes with a portion of a $600 million bond package. The city plans on fixing roads and then implementing bike lanes on those improved roads.

In the recommendation, it states, "All streets and arterials to be resurfaced or reconstructed within the bike plan will include the cost of adding bike lanes and amenities."

A recent survey of 40 major cities ranks Dallas right in the middle (No. 21) when it comes to parks. The reason the city wasn't ranked any higher was because of a lack of trails and bike paths to make things easier for pedestrians and bikers to get to the parks. With these improvements, Dallas stands a good chance of climbing those rankings.
