Many high school seniors apply for scholarships, hoping to cover most of the cost of their college tuition. However, most aren't as successful as Lake Highlands High School senior Stephanie Eyocko was this past week.

Last weekend, Eyocko was the winner of the Miss P.E.A.R.L. (Poised, Elegant And Responsible Leader) of Dallas Inner-Beauty Scholarship Pageant and part of her prize included a $3,000 scholarship. The participants were judged on academic achievement, public speaking skills, civic engagement and leadership skills.

Eyocko has also been the recipient of other scholarships. She was awarded a $20,000 scholarship from Dell, as well as a Dell computer. She also won the Young Woman in Public Affairs Award, which awards her a scholarship of $1,000 a year for four years.

Eyocko plans on attending the University of Oklahoma and majoring in Political Science while minoring in Mandarin Chinese.
