Jesuit College Preparatory School may have had a stranglehold on boys golf in District 9-5A, but one Lake Highlands golfer was able to break through and earn a place in the regional qualifiers. Blaine Hale placed second among individuals; he was the only golfer in the top-10 that was not from Jesuit.

Hale shot a 152 - 77 & 75 - over two rounds and finished tied with Jesuit's Jack White. However, Hale held the tiebreaker and will advance to the regional tournament.

Hale's placement is more remarkable considering how dominant Jesuit was at the tournament. Jesuit's A and B teams finished first and second, respectively, so both will be in the regional tournament. The top individual of the tournament, Josh Radcliff, was also from Jesuit and won by three strokes. And, as mentioned before, Hale was the only golfer in the top-10 that doesn't attend Jesuit.
