If you hear tornado sirens going off these next few months, listen closely before panicking over the possibility of an incoming tornado. Dallas’ Outdoor Warning System (a.k.a. the tornado sirens) will be undergoing scheduled preventative maintenance service.

The city is performing the preventative maintenance work now in preparation for next spring’s tornado season. Residents will hear brief and intermittent siren noises, otherwise known as “siren burps.” The siren burps don’t last nearly as long as the actual 3-5 minute siren activations.

Josh Roberts, Emergency Management Specialist at the City of Dallas, assures residents that the sirens will still be available in case of impending inclement weather. He hopes that this news will spread to as many people as possible to avoid any misunderstandings.

He said, “We don’t want any confusion as to whether it’s maintenance or a real activation.”
