LHHS Mock Trial Heads to State!

Lake Highlands High School’s Mock trial team was back in action recently at the Region 10 Mock Trial competition.  Having competed against 22 other schools from around the region, the team went undefeated through RISD district, Region 10 district, Region 10 semi-finals, Region 10 finals, and ultimately they are now representing Region 10 (North Texas) in the State Mock Trial Competition!!!

It was a fierce competition involving a case of manslaughter surrounding the death of a patient at a hospital during the time that the hospital’s medicals records had been hacked by the Defendant.  The case centered around the issue of causation.  Did the lack of records cause the patient’s death?  Or was it something else?

The contest was held over the past two weekends at the George Allen Courthouse in Dallas.  The students will now move on to the State competition in Dallas on February 28-March 2.

The Lake Highlands Mock Trial Team is lead by captains Gabe Olivo, Nicole Clifford, Rebeca Contreras and Sammy Bugni, as well as witness captain Kellie Henderson.  The LHHS State Competition Team consists of attorneys: Nicole Clifford, Gabe Olivo, Rebeca Contreras, Angela Landry, Loretta David and witnesses:  Kellie Henderson, Zoe Rose, Sheila Tume, Daniel Watson, Lydia Arthur and Nicole Clifford.

The team is coached by Kim Elkjer, JD.  The LHHS teacher sponsor is Xavier Mitchell.  And the team is enthusiastically supported by former sponsors Tracey Bishkin, Casey Boland and Candice Nichols.

For those who enjoy arguing, acting or public speaking, a meeting will be held at 6:30 on Thursday, February 7, at the LHHS library for any current 8th-11th grader interested in joining the Mock Trial Team.
