WFAA reported Tuesday shortly before noon that 12 Lake Highlands schools, including Lake Highlands High, are on lockdown due to "increased police activity."

Dallas Police confirmed they are investigating a recent string of sexual assaults in a confined area of Lake Highlands, including the latest incident, where "a woman claimed a man broke into her apartment and sexually assaulted her in the 8700 block of Aldwick Dr.," WFAA's Marjorie Owens reported.

RISD spokesman Tim Clark told NBC-DFW that the district is carrying out a "caution lockdown," during which students cannot leave the school premises, as a safety measure.

In an email sent about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, the district said Dallas police officers would be on site during school dismissal. The message reads:

12 Lake Highlands area schools on caution lockdown & will dismiss @ normal times. Increased police presence during dismissal.

The following schools are on "caution lockdown" until students are released for the day: Lake Highlands High School, Lake Highlands Junior High School, Lake Highlands Elementary School, Lake Highlands Freshman Center, Northlake Elementary School, Wallace Elementary School, White Rock Elementary School, Merriman Park Elementary School, Skyview Elementary School, Thurgood Marshall Elementary School, Moss Haven Elementary School and Forest Meadow Junior High School.
