The Lake Highlands volleyball team's run through the playoffs has come to an end at the hands of Austin Westlake High School. The Wildcats advanced as far as the UIL Regional Semifinals before bowing out. Still, despite the loss, this season, which was the first under new head coach Shelley Massey, has to be considered a success. This was the fourth consecutive district championship for Lake Highlands and was also the farthest the Wildcats had gone in the playoffs since the 2008-2009 season.

Austin Westlake, a perennial powerhouse in high school volleyball, showed their dominance with a 3-0 sweep (25-16, 25-19, 25-14) of Lake Highlands at Sam Houston State University. The Chaparrals never allowed the Wildcats to find their groove, which is evidenced by Lake Highlands never scoring more than 20 points.

The loss to Austin Westlake also marks the end of Matalee Reed's career at Lake Highlands. The two-time All-American will be taking her talents to Pepperdine University. However, her younger sister, freshmen setter Morgan Reed, will still be around for the next three years to try and help lead the Wildcats forward.
