After opening district play with 4 consecutive away games, the Lake Highlands varsity baseball team will battle the Pearce Mustangs in the Wildcats’ district home opener on Monday, March 30.   Varsity will play at 7 pm, preceded by the junior varsity game at 5 pm.

The Wildcats will try to gain ground in the wide open district 10-6A race, with no undefeated teams left after only 3 district games.  The Wildcats opened district play with a win at Berkner, which featured home runs by Brett Stell, Hunter Punjak and Sergio Soler, and a near-miss double to the wall by Andrew Vlad.  Pending the result of its district contest at Highland Park on Friday, March 27, Lake Highlands is 1-2 in district and 1-6 overall, after losses at Mesquite and Richardson.  The Pearce game begins a stretch in which the Wildcats will play 7 of their next 8 district games at home.

Stell leads the Wildcats with a .316 batting average.  Odessa College commit Soler has 22 strikeouts in 14 innings on the mound for Lake Highlands and also leads the team in runs batted in.
