Former Lake Highlands football coach Douglas Wendel was hired yesterday as the Athletic Director and head football coach of Ardmore High School in Ardmore, Oklahoma. According to Erik Horne, the sports editor at the ardmoreite.com, Wendel was the top choice of the committee.

At Lake Highlands, Wendel was the first assistant and the running backs coach. He later took his first head coaching stint at Eustace High School and made three consecutive trips to the state playoffs. Aside from Lake Highlands and Eustace, he was also a coach at Stillwater High School, Robinson Middle School in Plano, Plano Senior High School and R.L. Turner High School in Carrollton.

Wendel was a graduate of Oklahoma State in 1997 and still has family and friends in the area.
