DFW International Community Alliance, in partnership with the Dallas Women's Foundation and the Dallas Public Library, is pleased to announce the Graduation Ceremony of the unique educational program: The Life Skills Initiative for Refugee and Immigrant Women.

The graduation program will be held on Saturday, August 11 at the Audelia Branch Library. The final class will begin at 10 am, with the ceremony being held from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Students in the current program were born in Rwanda, Congo, Somalia, Peru, Burma, Bhutan, Nepal, Mexico, El Salvador, Ethiopia, and other nations and represent only a few of the 44% of North Texas residents who are New Americans. Sponsors and volunteers, along with famiy members of the participants, will be present and available for interviews.

The life skills workshop builds healthy families through units on financial literacy, women's health, computer literacy, riding DART, shopping on a budget, getting a library card / drivers license, job preparedness, ESL classes/GED/college/scholarships, domestic violence and reading DFW maps.

DFW International Community Alliance is the portal for global North Texas, a network of 1,600 of the regions ethnic and internationally-focused civic, community and educational organizations. Its mission is to build mutual understanding and respect by linking diverse international cultural communities.

The organization promotes and links North Texas global groups through its website and cultural calendar at www.dfwinternational.org/. The nonprofit also produces the Dallas International Festival, Fiesta Latinoamericana!, the DFW International Dinner with the Mayors, and many more cultural and community development programs.
